This year's Nigerian Telecommunications industry saw a significant fall in February's customer base, and was first since August 2018, In line with the result of monthly subscriber data obtained from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
The four renowned mobile network providers had a net gain of 174,012,136 registered users in January, which dropped by 0.2 percent to 173,670,035 at the end of February.
This is a loss of almost 400,000 customers, all within one month!
An additional report shows MTN experienced a huge loss, of 1,09 million registered users all lost in February, However 400,879 new customers was acquired by Globacom; Airtel's got additional 4,559 new customers, while 9mobile subscribers hits 345,264 added subscribers which is quite impressive, Especially if you consider all the experiences of 9Mobile over the past months.
Despite the depletion of MTN's customer base, the company continues to remain the country's leading mobile network provider, with a market share of 37.83%.
On the other hand, in February 2019, Internet subscribers rose to 850,153, adding the largest number of Internet subscribers to MTN by approximately 607,462. Globacom and 9mobile respectively lost 114,268 and 74,031 Internet subscribers. In good fate Airtel acquired over 430,990 new Internet subscribers.
The decrease of the Telecom Subscribers number, according to analysts, can not be disconnected from the NCC's complete ban on the pre-registered SIM cards.
